The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) screening panel has cleared a gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Willie Obiano.

The former Executive Director of Fidelity Bank’s successful screening was reported to have been possible based on his credible past records.

Unlike other contestants who were barred from contesting, like the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Oseloka Obaze and four others on the party’s platform, Obiano was cleared.

According to reports, Obiano, believed to have made a late entry into the race, was spending time in studying the opposition and fine-tuning his strategy after extensive consultations with opinion leaders across the state.
Reports added that the ex-banker’s entry into the race had caused an instant stir among contestants who fear and respect his towering profile and well known people skills.

It is believed that a major concern of his opponents is his proven competency and clean image.
Another advantage for Obiano over most of his opponents in the race for the party ticket, according to reports, is the well-known political agreement in Anambra, which favours candidates from his Anambra North senatorial district.

That aside, party insiders revealed that Obiano had been able to impress the party hierarchy, drawing the sympathy of party chieftains as well as the second opinion of the governor who is believed to have seen in him the possibilities for the continuation of his legacy.
