AHEAD of the mini national convention of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), slated for July, four foremost party faithful have expressed their desire to occupy the office.
Indications have emerged that the aspirants are Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Professor Tunde Adeniran, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, and Chief Dapo Sarunmi.
This is coming just as the mini national convention’s organising committee headed by Professor Jerry Gana declared that the party’s zoning arrangement applied for its 2012 national convention would still be used for its forthcoming mini convention.
Secretary of the mini convention’s planning committee, who is also the deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said that the zoning arrangement remained valid since the party was not organising a fresh national convention.
It will be recalled that Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola emerged the consensus national secretary of the party at the 2012 national convention but was removed from office through litigation.
However, Sunday Tribune reliably gathered that the party had resolved to allow for nominations for the post of the national secretary for a new candidate to emerge to fill the position from the same zone based on the pending suit and the current reality in the party.
An aide to one of the aspirants told Sunday Tribune, in Abuja, on Saturday, that his boss had made up his mind to give it a trial again now that there was another opportunity to offer himself for the service of the nation through the PDP as its national secretary.
